BenCab Museum turned out to be a fine art refuge one rainy afternoon we were vacationing in Baguio City. Many tourists were visiting the museum that day, famous undeniably for the name it carries. Named after celebrated national artist Ben Cabrera, this art gallery provides a friendly maze for exploring not only the artworks of BenCab, but also of other artists, both the well-known and those still establishing a name. Café by the Ruins, Baguio City

A splendid Baguio morning for me would be waking up very early, breathing the cool air outside, knowing that I’m far from Manila for a while, having a walk at Burnham Park or at some quiet place, and then getting breakfast at Café by the Ruins. Bacolod Without the Masskara

Bacolod is best known for its Masskara Festival, a truly festive event that culminates with an extravagant street parade filled with colorful masks.

Without Masskara Festival, however, Bacolod isn’t really seen as a tourist destination. Bacolod doesn’t have scenic beaches, typical of places like Bohol or Cebu.

We went to Bacolod prior to Masskara Festival, and as our plane descended on the island, I made a quick survey of the province so vastly covered with sugarcane plantation.

The Ruins – Talisay City, Negros Occidental

The Ruins in Talisay City, Negros Occidental is what remained of the grand mansion that Don Mariano Lacson built, following the death of his first wife, Maria Braga.

Built in memory of Maria Braga, the mansion became the residence of Don Mariano and his unmarried children.

Today, it is a tourist attraction for its romantic, yet strong structures. Many interesting tales and facts lie within the walls and posts that remained of the Ruins.
